Volunteering
Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

Volunteers make things happen at Ovar'coming Together! With just two staff members in our offices, we rely heavily on the dedicated efforts of our fantastic volunteers to help achieve our mission! We welcome any person or group interested in donating their time and expertise to help spread the word about ovarian cancer throughout Indiana. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available depending on your interests and the current needs of the organization.

Current Immediate Need:   Social Media Expert (Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn)
We need someone who is knowledgeable about the platforms, available to post regularly, discerning and confident about appropriate content, able to offer strategy advice and help to improve our social media presence!

On-Going Volunteer Opportunities:

Board of Directors Membership
Serving as a Board Member for Ovar'coming Together means attending monthly meetings, helping to raise funds for the organization, supporting the Executive Director, being present at events, building relationships and being an advocate for the fight against ovarian cancer. To become a Board Member, an individual must apply for the volunteer position then be approved for service by the current Board. This selection process takes place at the end of each year. Once someone is selected for service, he or she will serve 1-3 year term.

Special Event Planning
Throughout the year, Ovar'coming Together puts on a variety of special events ranging from small gatherings (ex. survivor social events) to large fundraising events (ex. Basket Bingo, Run/Walk). Special event volunteers help with all of aspects of planning an event (selecting location, solicitation of donors or sponsors (ex. helping with a mailing), graphic design for promotional items (ex. t-shirt designs), brainstorming about improvements and new activities, etc.

Event Day Helpers
At each event there are always a variety of jobs that need to be done! As an event day helper you could do any of the following and more depending on the event: help with registration and check-in, work behind the tables at Basket Bingo, direct folks along the run/walk route, work the Teal Market, work the activities booths, hand out water, fruit and snacks, stamp cards for motorcycle riders, set up and tear down for all events, etc. Our events are when we need the most volunteers so please sign up!

                                                                                    Health Fair Booths
Ovar'coming Together tries to have a presence                                                                                       at as many community events as possible. We                                                                                       have a display, literature and giveaways that we                                                                                     take to each one. A health fair volunteer takes                                                                                       supplies to an event, sets it up, then greets                                                                                           individuals as they come by and offers them                                                                                           symptom cards and brochures. Sound a little                                                                                         intimidating? Don't let it be! Check out our video                                                                                     about how to become a knowledgeable
                                                                                    volunteer!
